What we know

Aniimo launches today, September 15, 2026, for Xbox Series X|S, Xbox PC, and Xbox Game Pass. Pawprint Studio’s free-to-play creature-catching open-world RPG sends players to the continent of Idyll.

More than 200 Aniimo are available to find, meet, and collect at launch. The roster includes Squarrel and its evolution, Squashel. The squirrel-like Squarrel can roll down hills while holding its tail and fights through fast combos built around its tail-based abilities.

The studio says beta-test feedback informed several launch changes. The Irisalis Legendary Aniimo encounter has been rebuilt across its capture process, gameplay flow, and encounter ritual. That revised format will also serve as the foundation for future Legendary Aniimo events.

Aniimo training and progression have been updated as well. The Held Item System has been simplified, Star Dust drop rates have increased, and progression caps now open naturally as an Aniimo levels up. Homeland has received refinements to its progression and upgrade systems, plus an expanded map with more features, activities, and interactive elements.

Pawprint Studio has optimized controls for mobile devices and gamepads. The main story now has multilingual voice acting, while translations have been improved across every supported language.

Catch, Twine, and explore Idyll

Players can use Aniipods, set traps, and time their captures to add Aniimo to their collection. Which creatures appear is affected by the environment, weather, certain phenomena, and time of day, and most Aniimo can evolve.

A central feature, Twine, lets players become the Aniimo they have collected and use their abilities to solve puzzles, win battles, and overcome challenges. The open world supports travel methods including gliding, diving, and burrowing.

Aniimo also includes Egg Heist, a PVEVP mode in which three-player teams take part in real-time searches and battles across the Lost Isles. Every Pathfinder has a personal RV at a campsite in Idyll; back in Homeland, players can grow crops, build decorations, and arrange their space with Aniimo.
