BioEden Is Now Available on Xbox Series X|S With Its 4R Management Approach
Broken Arms Games reshapes the 4X formula into an environmental restoration experience with no fail states or time pressure.

What we know
BioEden is now available on Xbox Series X|S. Developed by Broken Arms Games and published by Focus Entertainment, the cozy management game offers a different take on the traditional 4X formula: rather than expanding and conquering, players work to bring a devastated planet back to life.
Its approach is built around the 4R: Restore, Relax, Revive, and Recycle. Set in a solarpunk-inspired post-apocalyptic future, the game takes place after Earth has become inhospitable and many animal species have gone extinct. As a Keeper working for the Cosmic Collective, players are tasked with rebuilding ecosystems and helping a world thrive again.
Restoration comes first. Players clear debris, purify polluted land and lakes, and rehabilitate damaged areas. Once the environment has been stabilized, they can create the right conditions for plant life to return, followed by the extinct animal species they are working to revive.
Building carries an environmental cost
BioEden retains some of the progression structure associated with 4X games, but applies it to different goals. Rather than using a technology tree focused on territorial growth, players unlock buildings and upgrades through story milestones, choices, and requests that build trust with their guild.
Management revolves around interconnected domes, resources, electricity, and water. Every structure uses materials and creates pollution simply by existing, while many also require a physical connection to an energy source, either directly or through power poles. A single new facility can therefore call for additional infrastructure and add to the planet’s environmental burden.
Recycling is the system designed to balance those choices. Any building can be dismantled at any time, returning every resource invested and removing the pollution it created. That lets players rethink their construction networks without turning mistakes into permanent losses.
No rival empires or failure states
There are no opposing empires to defeat, no countdown, and no fail states. The game’s central relationship is not diplomatic interaction with other factions, but the one between the player and the planet, which responds to their choices and playstyle.
Without that pressure, players can progress at their own pace, explore, and watch a barren world gradually fill with life. For players, the key departure from a conventional 4X game is that resource and infrastructure decisions are not made in pursuit of domination; they are made to heal the environment and make room for restored wildlife.
Alongside purifying lakes and recycling structures, BioEden lets players build habitats for dozens of species and develop a self-sustaining ecological economy while uncovering the mystery of the Great Unraveling.
