What we know

BrokenLore: Don’t Lie is now available for Xbox Series X|S and PC. Published by Wired Productions and made by the team at Serafini Productions, the new release expands the connected BrokenLore narrative universe while remaining playable as a standalone story.

The game follows Junko, a young hikikomori—a person who withdraws from social life and seeks isolation for a range of social or psychological reasons. Her traumatic past resurfaces as her perception begins to unravel: the line between memory and reality breaks down, and familiar locations become reflections of experiences she has spent years suppressing.

A connected story that stands on its own

Don’t Lie is linked to BrokenLore: Don’t Watch, the earlier entry focused on Shinji. Junko and Shinji met at a rehabilitation centre in 2020, where both were receiving treatment for different psychiatric disorders that led them to become hikikomori. Don’t Watch covers the origins of Shinji’s isolation, while the new game tells Junko’s story.

Serafini Productions describes BrokenLore as a universe built from fragmented stories. Each game focuses on its own characters and themes, while players who look more closely can connect the separate pieces. The studio uses horror as its storytelling medium for human experiences and social issues it sees as relevant.

In Don’t Lie, social withdrawal, trauma, and isolation sit at the centre of the story. The team also explores another phenomenon it has increasingly observed: people using AI tools not only for information, but to discuss personal problems or seek advice. That observation helped inspire Miki-chan, a character in the game.

First-person psychological horror

The game is framed as a Japanese first-person psychological horror experience with a slow-building descent into paranoia and increasingly unreliable perception. Players investigate Junko’s apartment and nearby distorted spaces, using messages, files, and environmental clues to uncover hidden truths.

There are also tension-driven sequences that require staying out of sight and moving carefully, as an unseen presence begins tracking player behaviour. Environments shift between recognizable locations and warped liminal spaces shaped by Junko’s memories, where her fears and recollections take form.

BrokenLore: Don’t Lie is listed at $15.99, with a displayed discounted price of $14.39 on Xbox.
