What we know

Hela: Of Mice & Magic will launch on December 1, 2026 for Xbox Series X|S, with day-one availability through Xbox Game Pass. Xbox Wire’s latest update also outlines how the game’s Brewing & Remedies system will drive progression throughout the adventure.

Players take the role of tiny mouse familiars helping a kind witch care for the world around her. Exploration takes them through forests, meadows, and wetlands inspired by northern Swedish landscapes, where they can gather native plants and other magical ingredients. Those finds are then brought back to the witch’s cottage for brewing.

Brewing is hands-on rather than menu-based

Brewing is not presented as simply choosing an item from a standard crafting menu. Each recipe calls for different ingredients and a particular sequence of hands-on actions to successfully finish the brew. Recipes do not all follow the same process, with the system intended to make players engage with preparation and experimentation as well as resource gathering.

The resulting brews can aid the creatures and communities encountered along the journey, or improve the player’s own capabilities. Among the most important creations are Remedies, magical tools that broaden the available options in the environment.

Remedies create new routes and solutions

As players build their Remedy collection, they gain new ways to move through the world, solve puzzles, overcome obstacles, and interact with their surroundings. An area that was previously out of reach may become accessible, while a puzzle without an early solution can be tackled differently later on.

The idea is not solely to make the character stronger. Remedies are designed to prompt players to revisit familiar spaces and spot fresh opportunities for exploration.

Hela: Of Mice & Magic supports solo play, two-player local split-screen, and online co-op for up to four players. Every puzzle can be completed alone, though co-op lets players combine tools and approaches when taking on environmental challenges. In solo play, the Shade System allows players to create magical copies of themselves to assist with puzzles and world interactions.

The adventure also features Froggy, a magical backpack used to interact with the world, gather resources, and solve environmental puzzles. With its Xbox Series X|S and Game Pass debut set for December 1, the game positions brewing as the link between curiosity while exploring and new ways to progress.
