Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Gets Free Update With Nintendo Switch 2 Enhancements

Nintendo has released a free update for Mario Kart 8 Deluxe that adds several enhancements when the game is played on Nintendo Switch 2.

Its headline addition is local split-screen racing for up to eight people on a single Nintendo Switch 2 system, provided players have enough controllers. Nintendo notes that multiplayer may require additional accessories, which are sold separately.

The update also brings CameraPlay support. Players can connect a compatible USB camera to Nintendo Switch 2 and have their faces appear in the game during a race. The feature is available for groups of two to four players, and it can also be used online through GameChat.

Using GameChat's online and video features requires an internet connection, a Nintendo Switch Online membership, a Nintendo Account, and a compatible USB camera. Nintendo also says these features are not available in every country.

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe now also supports the Nintendo Switch 2 display and high-resolution TVs for sharper visuals. Nintendo says loading times have been improved as well, getting players into races more quickly.

Downloading the patch requires a Nintendo Switch 2 system connected to the internet. The update itself is free, though the required camera and any other accessories are sold separately.
