Metro 2039 launches February 4, 2027, with PS5 Pro gameplay revealed

Metro 2039 will launch for PlayStation 5 on February 4, 2027, 4A Games has confirmed. It will be available on February 5 in some territories, including Asia, Australia, and New Zealand.

The announcement came with the world debut of the game’s console gameplay, captured exclusively on PlayStation 5 Pro. The footage introduces The Stranger, the new protagonist: a former Spartan warrior with a dark past who returns to the Metro he once left behind.

Having emerged from the tunnels, The Stranger moves through the thawing post-apocalyptic ruins of Moscow. The showcased sequence sees him searching for a Novoreich fortress inside a nearby dam, with radiation and crumbling apartment blocks making the surface a constant threat.

A story-driven survival FPS

4A Games describes Metro 2039 as a solo, story-driven first-person shooter. Players will need to manage radiation and equipment to stay alive, while choosing how to handle combat and exploration.

The gameplay shown includes charging the Shatun rifle for lethal suppressed shots, using Molotov cocktails to clear a room, and relying on the Duplet shotgun for close-range kills amid collapsing structures.

Ray tracing and a 60fps Performance Mode

Metro 2039 runs on 4A Games’ proprietary 4A Engine. The studio has confirmed that both PS5 and PS5 Pro versions will feature ray tracing, as well as a dedicated Performance Mode targeting 60fps.

The game can now be wishlisted through PlayStation Store. Pre-orders are planned to open later in 2026, and 4A Games says it will share more on the story, gameplay, technology, and PS5 features ahead of release.
