Railbreak DX Is Out Now on Xbox Series X|S With New Characters, Modes, and Dinosaurs

Railbreak DX is now available for Xbox Series X|S. The expanded edition of the arcade on-rails shooter supports Xbox Play Anywhere and Xbox Cloud Streaming, allowing players to keep their progress and achievements synchronized across supported devices or stream the game without downloading it.

The new release adds nine playable characters, bringing its survivor roster to 18. Every character has distinct loadouts, fire rates, damage output, and traits, creating different approaches to both survival and score chasing.

More modes and enemy combinations

The main campaign follows detective Lydia Daniels and mercenary Hank through a zombie apocalypse in Cypress Ridge. Its six scenarios contain destructible objects and supplies scattered through the stages, while Story Mode is the only mode where special weapons can be picked up from the environment.

Alongside the campaign, Railbreak DX includes Score Attack, the endless Onslaught Mode—where difficulty continues to rise—and Glitch Gauntlet, a roguelike-style mode built around unpredictable effects. A new Practice Mode is also available, giving players unlimited health and removing barriers while they test characters.

Players can take on the classic undead, the dinosaurs from DINOBREAK, or a mix of both enemy types. Optional two-player co-op is supported throughout the full game as well.

Visual upgrades and changes from the original

Railbreak DX runs on Unreal Engine 5 and receives a major visual upgrade, including improved player, enemy, and weapon animations as well as ray tracing. The release also rebalances the whole cast, changing details such as weapons, magazine sizes, and firing rates.

The game retains its arcade focus on scoring: headshots and severing enemy limbs provide extra damage and points, while grenades are positioned as a low-scoring emergency tool. Harming civilians penalizes the player's health, although civilians caught in blasts from certain grenades or special enemies do not trigger that penalty.

Dead Drop Studios also says the original Railbreak will be removed from individual direct sale in September 2026. Railbreak DX is intended as the expanded version to receive long-term support, future content updates, and paid DLC.
