Sea of Thieves Season 21 launches with a free weekend and new rewards
The new season introduces the Parley Pennant for social encounters, recurring events and a refreshed reward track.
What we know
Sea of Thieves Season 21 is arriving around Talk Like a Pirate Day, bringing a free play weekend, new rewards and Microsoft Rewards promotions.
The game will be free to install and play across all supported platforms from September 17 at 15:00 UTC until September 21 at 17:00 UTC. An Xbox Game Pass subscription will not be required for online play during that window.
A pennant for starting conversations
One of the season’s additions is the Parley Pennant, a flag equipped through a ship’s flag box. Pirates sailing within range will be notified that the crew is looking to talk. It can be used to suggest an Alliance, take on challenges cooperatively or simply engage with other players.
Players who use the pennant during the in-game Talk Like a Pirate Day event can earn the Parley Proficiency Sails.
The season will also feature a schedule of recurring activities, including Fight Nights and Bilge Rats Weekenders. Rare is also planning further gameplay additions, including continued expansions to the Custom Seas mode, as well as bonuses tied to Xbox’s 25th anniversary.
A refreshed seasonal reward track adds new items to unlock regardless of how players choose to play. The Flame’s Light Lantern awaits at the end of that track.
Golden Legends sweepstakes and limited-time items
Microsoft Rewards is running the Sea of Thieves: Golden Legends Sweepstakes from September 17 through October 31 in the US, Canada, Mexico, the UK, France, Germany and the Netherlands.
Participants can download Bing wallpapers or use Microsoft Rewards points to enter the draw. The grand prize includes a one-of-a-kind Golden Legends Xbox Series X, a matching controller and one year of Xbox Game Pass Premium. Controllers and subscriptions will also be offered as second-place prizes in each territory, subject to the promotion’s terms.
In participating territories, Microsoft Rewards points can also be redeemed for Ancient Coins to spend in the Pirate Emporium. For a limited time, those bundles include the Loquacious Figurehead. Xbox Game Pass subscribers can additionally claim the Vociferous Speaking Trumpet as an in-game benefit between September 17 and October 31.
Finally, Xbox has made the Lone Survivor dynamic background available through the console’s Personalisation menu.
