What we know

Silent Hill: Townfall launches on PS5 on September 24, 2026. Ahead of release, Konami and developer Screen Burn have outlined the console features supporting its first-person psychological horror experience.

Players take the role of Simon, who washes ashore on the island of St. Amelia after drifting at sea. With only the instruction to “put things right,” he explores an apparently empty town. Rather than the series’ familiar radio, Simon carries a device called the CRTV, used to detect roaming monsters, uncover puzzle clues, and investigate the island.

Townfall is the first full-length Silent Hill game presented entirely from a first-person perspective. Its creators say that restricted viewpoint makes sound particularly important for navigation and for recognizing nearby dangers.

Audio, lighting, and controls built around tension

The PS5 version will use custom 3D audio systems to give environmental sounds, music, and St. Amelia’s hostile inhabitants a stronger sense of depth and space. The team describes Townfall’s horror as being more concerned with sustained tension and escalating uncertainty than jump scares or gore, making sound design a key part of its approach.

The island itself is designed with period-appropriate details and is meant to feel like a place that has endured recent trauma rather than decades of decay. Its environments also serve the narrative: players will piece together secrets and story fragments through puzzles in addition to cinematic sequences. The story addresses the relationship between individuals, corporations, and society.

Ray-traced lighting will help environments react visually to the player’s flashlight, alarm lights, and the shift from blue-grey fog to the bright-red Otherworld.

DualSense features are also part of the design. Haptic feedback will convey sensations including weapon swings, gunfire, and the heavy steps of nearby enemies, while adaptive triggers will give each weapon a distinct trigger weight. Players can also use motion controls to fine-tune the CRTV or aim firearms, with those settings customizable through the game’s options menu.

Published by Konami Digital Entertainment, Silent Hill: Townfall aims to make exploring St. Amelia depend as much on what players hear and feel through the controller as on what they can see when it arrives on PS5 on September 24.
