What we know

Turok: Origins is coming to Xbox Series X|S as a shooter built around direct combat, dinosaurs, alien creatures, and a campaign playable solo or in co-op. The campaign supports up to three players—a first for the Turok series—and uses drop-in, drop-out co-op, allowing friends to join or leave without forcing the group to restart or work through menus.

The game is positioned as a soft reset set long before the events of the first Turok. Its approach moves the series from its 1990s dinosaur-hunting roots toward a fast-moving futuristic shooter with an arcade sensibility.

Before a mission, players select one of three classes, each with its own weapons and abilities:

Cougar focuses on speed, mobility, and close-range fighting. Bison fills a tougher defensive role, deploying large shields and absorbing damage. Raven favors long-range attacks and carries a bow as its primary weapon.

Those roles are designed to work together in co-op. The demonstrated options include slowing enemies, creating barriers, and using team positioning against large enemy groups and prehistoric bosses.

Combat, DNA, and boss encounters

A recent hands-on build featured a clearly structured mission: clear out enemies, destroy opposing technology, and move on to a final boss encounter. The available arsenal includes plasma rifles, ray guns, sniper rifles, bows, and shotguns, alongside melee attacks and special abilities.

The game also has a DNA-based progression system. Players can extract DNA from defeated enemies and the environment to unlock powers that evolve their suit in real time, with upgradeable skills and abilities tied to those enhancements.

The mission ended with Metal Maw, a large theropod fitted with missile launchers. The fight requires players to move around the arena for ammunition and health pickups while the creature alternates between charging attacks and rockets fired from range.

The adventure will take Turok warriors across the Lost Lands, visiting worlds on different planets that include dense jungles, ancient temples, wasteland canyons, swamps, and caves. Its story centers on an alien threat seeking to destroy humanity, with players uncovering mysteries connected to humanity’s survival.

Turok: Origins is in development for Xbox Series X|S. No release date has been announced.
