Cyberpunk 2077’s Edgerunners 2 Update (2.5) arrives October 22

The Polish studio made the announcement on the same day Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 premiered on Netflix. According to its official statement, Update 2.5 is free and releases on October 22 on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. The Nintendo Switch 2 version will “follow shortly”, though CD PROJEKT RED hasn’t given it a date.

Alongside content inspired by the anime’s new installment, the studio promises “a range of other new items and features”.

Dual wielding and cyberware customization

So far only two features have been named. The official Cyberpunk website teases cyberware customization and a new dual-wielding playstyle, plus an “and more” that leaves room for other surprises. CD PROJEKT RED hasn’t yet explained how they will work or which specific weapons or implants the update will include.

GamesRadar+ points out that the first Edgerunners series was accompanied by a big free update with weapons, gear and new gigs, and its writer expects new gigs or at least cosmetics based on the new show’s characters this time too. For now that’s only speculation: CD PROJEKT RED hasn’t confirmed anything along those lines.

REDstreams on October 21

Answers are coming tomorrow. CD PROJEKT RED will air a special REDstreams episode on Wednesday, October 21, at 5 PM CEST (4 PM BST, 11 AM ET, 8 AM PT) with a first look at the update. It will be broadcast on Twitch, YouTube and Steam, and the studio will publish the official patch notes the same day.

The official Update 2.5 illustration was created by Taisei Uchida (original art), with Yukiko Kakita on ink and paint check and Yuichiro Tozawa on special effects.

Edgerunners 2 is now on Netflix

The occasion for all this is Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2, the second installment of the anime from CD PROJEKT RED and Japanese studio TRIGGER. All ten episodes are available on Netflix as of today, October 20, four years after Cyberpunk: Edgerunners premiered.

It’s a standalone series with an all-new cast: a veteran edgerunner, a young cinephile, a chrome-obsessed delinquent and a Snake Nation netrunner, whose stories intertwine in a tale of vengeance and redemption in Night City. It’s directed by Kai Ikarashi, with Kanno Ichigo as lead character designer, and returning collaborators include Masahiko Otsuka and Bartosz Sztybor, who serves as showrunner, story writer and producer.
