Nintendo Switch Sports Resort details its 12 sports ahead of October 22 launch
Nintendo has run through all 12 sports in Nintendo Switch Sports Resort, which launches on October 22 exclusively for Nintendo Switch 2. There are two newcomers, Thumb Wrestling and Skateboarding, plus ten returning events, all built around motion controls and playable solo or with others, on the same system or online.

Two new sports: thumb wrestling and skateboarding
The most unusual addition is Thumb Wrestling: pin your opponent’s thumb for three seconds to win. Nintendo’s October 16 article offers a tip: if you hold your thumb down, it gets bigger and stronger.
The other newcomer is Skateboarding, which uses the Joy-Con 2 as a mouse to grind rails, slide around and pull off aerial tricks. According to Nintendo UK’s product page, it has three modes: Sightseeing Tour, where you collect Spocco Photos around the island; Skate Sprint, with courses to master; and Free Play, for skating around at your own pace.
Ten returning sports
The rest of the lineup is made up of returning sports, according to Nintendo:
Power Cruising: ride the waves using any pair of Joy-Con as handlebars; twisting the controller gives an instant boost.
Archery: aim for the target, keeping in mind that the wind may play a part.
Bowling: twist the controller to add spin to your throw.
Prop Plane: tilt the controller to speed up, roll in the air and shoot balloons.
Tennis: any Joy-Con works as your racket.
Table Tennis, Boxing, Volleyball, Basketball and Golf complete the list, with quick, simple table tennis shots, different punches to land the K.O. and golf rounds where you adjust each shot.
Before playing you can warm up with Jump Rope, which Nintendo presents as a warm-up rather than one of the 12 sports.
Wuhu Island, modes and online play
The game is set on Wuhu Island, an island resort with tourist attractions and sports facilities. Nintendo UK cites Prop Plane and Skateboarding as examples of Leisure Sports, designed for exploring and hunting for photo spots, while the US store page adds Power Cruising as a way to see the island by land, sea and air.
For solo players there is Island Crown, a mode where you take on the island’s champions across nine sports to earn customization items and Spocco Points. Online, there is a ranked Pro League that matches you with players of similar skill, casual unranked matches across nine sports and private Friend Lobbies for up to eight players, with up to two per system.
According to Nintendo’s US store, up to four people can play on one system and 2 to 16 online, though limits vary by sport: the UK page lists, for example, one or two players for Boxing and Thumb Wrestling, and up to 16 online for Bowling. Online play requires a Nintendo Switch Online membership and a Nintendo Account, and Nintendo notes that multiplayer may require additional accessories sold separately.
You can play as a Sportsmate or a Mii and customize your look with outfits, hairstyles and accessories bought with Spocco Points in the Item Center, which rotates its stock weekly and monthly.
Price, pre-orders and console bundle
On Nintendo’s US store, the game costs $49.99 and is available to pre-order. There is also a Nintendo Switch 2 + Nintendo Switch Sports Resort Bundle for $529.99, which includes a full download of the game and a three-month Nintendo Switch Online Individual Membership. The official sources we checked do not give a euro price.
Nintendo UK’s page lists a PEGI 7 rating and Spanish among the supported languages. Nintendo is the publisher.
From the June Direct to launch
Nintendo revealed the game in the June 9, 2026 Nintendo Direct, as reported by Engadget. It follows 2022’s Nintendo Switch Sports in a motion-controlled sports series that began with Wii Sports in 2006 and continued with Wii Sports Resort.
