What we know

Xbox has opened a free playtest that lets Xbox Insiders try content from Wreck Runners’ September Update ahead of its official arrival. It is available to everyone on Xbox Series X|S, and players do not need to own the game to take part.

The test starts Friday, September 4 at 10:00 AM PT (17:00 UTC) and ends Wednesday, September 9 at 10:00 AM PT (17:00 UTC). Players can bring up to three friends, board the ORCA, and explore this work-in-progress build together.

The playtest offers an early look at several additions planned for the update. These include Temples, a new kind of location to explore and salvage; runner color customization; and a new underwater enemy that hunts beneath the surface.

The build also features Paranormal Progression, introducing new choices as crews advance through a run, as well as Trustwell Lost Salvage, which rewards venturing beyond familiar areas. New hazards, interface improvements, and further changes are included as well.

Support for 15 additional languages

The build adds Arabic, German, Latin American Spanish, French, Italian, Japanese, Kazakh, Korean, Polish, Brazilian Portuguese, Russian, Turkish, Ukrainian, Simplified Chinese, and Traditional Chinese. The team is particularly seeking feedback from players using those languages if any text feels unclear, unnatural, untranslated, or difficult to read.

As this is an unreleased development build, players may encounter bugs and its content can change before the September Update launches. Reports from participants will help improve the experience ahead of release.

How to join the playtest

On an Xbox Series X|S console, players need to open the Xbox Insider Hub app, or install it from the Store if needed. From there, go to Previews > Wreck Runners, select Join, and wait for registration to finish. The app will then direct players to the Store to install Wreck Runners Playtest.

To report issues encountered during the test, Xbox asks players to hold the Xbox button on their controller, select Report a problem, choose the Games category and Wreck Runners Playtest subcategory, then complete the report with the relevant details.
