Young Suns Leaves Game Preview With Its Major 1.0 Update

Young Suns leaves Game Preview today with the launch of version 1.0. The update substantially expands KO_OP’s one-to-four-player narrative life sim, set on Jupiter after a successful revolution.

The most important change for returning players is that Game Preview save files will not work with version 1.0. KO_OP says the incompatibility is the result of the scale of the overhaul made for the full launch.

More places, quests, and factions

Version 1.0 adds twelve new moonlets to explore, with resources to collect and dozens of items to craft. New ship decoration sets are also arriving, giving players more ways to customize the vessel that serves as their home while travelling through the Jovian system.

Narrative and quest content, which was still in progress during Game Preview, is being expanded with three new quest types. Players will meet the system’s revolutionaries through eight factions, each with its own view of how society should be rebuilt. They can align with any faction, earn reputation, and unlock faction-exclusive rewards for both their character and ship.

The update also introduces the Jovipedia, a scanning tool for learning about the Jovian system’s ecosystem and history. Its cast will receive reactive dialogue and daily conversations as well.

Customization tied to exploration

All cosmetics were unlocked during Game Preview. In 1.0, some of those items are being incorporated into progression, becoming rewards for exploring moonlets, trading with factions, and completing quests.

Character creation begins in the somaforming chamber on Wednesday station. Available options include the character’s age, decorative face paint, and spacesuit. The game includes arm and leg prostheses, a range of skin tones and hair textures, and a system for creating different body sizes. KO_OP says it intends to continue expanding those options.

The studio says several improvements came directly from community feedback during Game Preview. Those include donation boxes at stations, which let players clear backpack space while earning gratitude, and the addition of more masculine hairstyles.

Young Suns can be played solo or with up to three friends. Its store listing also places the game in PC Game Pass and Xbox Game Pass.
