What we know

EXODUS will launch for Xbox Series X|S and PC on April 7, 2027. The single-player action RPG will support Xbox Play Anywhere, allowing players to access it on both console and PC at no additional cost.

A hands-on mission set several hours into the game has outlined how Wizards of the Coast’s RPG combines choice-driven combat, a party of specialized companions, and a far-future science-fiction setting that includes highly evolved talking animals. Players take the role of Jun Aslan, a salvager fighting for the future of his homeworld.

In the playable segment, Jun sets out to rescue a space station inhabited by hyper-intelligent frogs. He is joined by Suliman, a reserved companion, and Elise, a more carefree mercenary who fights in a combat-ready exosuit.

A flexible weapon and powers that broaden combat

Jun’s primary weapon, the Recycler, can switch between several forms. In the hands-on session, it changed from a burst-fire battle rifle to an energy weapon built to break shields. Jun can also use crafted or scavenged items, including hovering drone-like grenades, as well as cooldown-based Celestial powers. Those abilities can send energy erupting beneath enemies or petrify them so companions can finish them off.

The game’s official description also identifies the Gauntlet as a unique weapon and tool for Jun, combining recovered alien technology into new destructive abilities. Encounters can be approached with direct gunfire, stealth, or, on some occasions, dialogue.

Companions built for distinct tactical roles

Squadmates fight autonomously, but their abilities can be triggered during combat, alongside powerful special attacks that can turn a battle around. Suliman leans toward stealth, able to move behind enemies for melee takedowns and strike multiple targets at once. Elise takes a more conspicuous approach, launching rocket salvos that inflict heavy area damage.

The preview indicates that party composition will matter tactically as well as narratively. EXODUS will feature specialists including soldiers, smugglers, mercenaries, scholars, and Awakened animals; their skills and chemistry will shape battles and decisions. Players can also form bonds with companions, including fighting beside them, falling in love, saving them, or losing them.

Choices and Traveler Oaths

The game’s morality system goes beyond a simple good-versus-evil split. Traveler Oaths expand two paths—Paladin and Immortal—into more specific personality traits for Jun. Companions will respond differently to those Oaths, meaning player decisions will also affect their standing with the crew.

According to the game’s description, choices will influence the crew, missions, the people left behind, and the fate of Jun’s world. Time Dilation will make those actions resonate across generations during journeys through space.

EXODUS is set 40,000 years from Earth. Jun will explore ruins, derelict alien ships, and forgotten tombs, confront Celestial enemies and rival human factions, and recover Remnants to reshape his civilization.
