Shape of Dreams launches on PS5 with The Starless Path update
Lizard Smoothie’s co-op roguelite arrives on PlayStation 5 today with cross-play, four-player online co-op, and its biggest update yet.

What we know
Shape of Dreams is available on PlayStation 5 today, September 17, 2026. The release includes The Starless Path, its first-anniversary update and, according to developer Lizard Smoothie, the largest update the game has received.
The roguelite can be played solo or in online parties of up to four players. Cross-play is live from launch, unifying PS5 lobbies with those on PC and other consoles. Lizard Smoothie says player builds can work together in combat: one player may freeze enemies for a teammate to damage more heavily, or pull foes into one spot for the group to clear at once.
Nine Travelers and flexible builds
Players choose from nine Travelers before descending into the Rapids, a dream world that changes with every run. Character builds revolve around Memories, which are equipped abilities, and Essences, which substantially change how those abilities behave.
There are more than 200 Memories and Essences. A single-target attack, for instance, can be changed to chain between nearby enemies or have its cooldown reduced on successful hits, giving it a different role during a run.
Each Traveler starts with two distinct traits: an active Traveler Memory and a passive Identity Memory. Before a run, players select between two options for each slot. Every character also has a Constellation that retains its progress after a run ends, and The Starless Path adds new Stars to slot into that system.
Cetus, progression, and tougher endgame challenges
The update introduces Cetus, a ranged frost-tank Traveler. Cetus can lock down the battlefield with ice while maintaining shields for both himself and nearby allies.
It also adds the Way of Stars system, which connects each Traveler’s story in the form of a constellation. Reaching the depths of the Rapids unlocks hidden episodes and illustrations, as well as a new ending and the game’s toughest final boss. Existing world bosses gain secondary attack patterns at higher difficulties.
Meanwhile, Fallen Stars and Faded Memories lets players replace a Traveler’s usual Identity Memory with one of six Universal Identity Memories. That means Travelers are no longer limited solely to their standard identity passive, opening another progression route.
The PS5 version also contains all improvements and content developed over the last year with the Steam community, which Lizard Smoothie says has grown beyond 1.5 million players.
