What we know

Final Fantasy VII Revelation will launch for PlayStation 5 on April 8, 2027 as the final chapter of the remake trilogy, following Final Fantasy VII Remake and Final Fantasy VII Rebirth. A hands-on demo shown at Tokyo Game Show 2026 has provided new details on Vincent and Cid as playable characters, the FITS System, and a battle with Jenova Death.

The playable story segment is set in the Whirlwind Maze, where Cloud’s group heads alongside airship pilot Cid. The party totals eight members and moves through a cliffside environment requiring players to shimmy along walls and vault over ledges with parkour traversal. Black-robed figures appear along the route, while howling winds and aurora-like bands of light shape the setting.

Vincent switches between firearms and monster form

Vincent has two combat styles: ranged firearm attacks and a monster transformation for close-quarters fighting. Consecutive standard shots evolve his unique abilities from Blood Moon to Execration and then Retribution, with their strength tied to the number of hits landed. Firing uses the Square button and abilities use Triangle, with no manual aiming required.

Holding R1 puts Vincent into monster form. He can move quickly on all fours, strike with claws, and hold Triangle to stagger enemies more quickly. The transformation has no usage limit, but Vincent’s Chaos level rises over time and lowers his maximum HP. That creates a trade-off between remaining transformed and switching forms to suit the enemy.

Cid, meanwhile, is built around aerial spear combat. His standard attacks can be chained through precisely timed Square presses when he is surrounded by a blue aura, leading into follow-up moves including Dragon Spin, Hyper Dive, and Ground Pound. His weapon’s reach also lets him sweep through multiple opponents.

His Triangle-button Target Spear can be charged to throw up to five spears. Pinning foes with them powers up moves such as Skydive and Burst Spiral, adding a tactical setup to his attacks.

Four FITS uniforms and a risky summon attack

The demo also introduces FITS, short for Function-Integrated Tactical Suitwear. The new system lets players select from four specialized uniforms — Warrior, Knight, Black Mage, and Summoner — each granting its own capabilities and abilities.

Cloud begins the demo wearing the Summoner FITS. Selecting it from the command menu in battle temporarily calls powerful beings including Ifrit, Shiva, and Titan to fight alongside him. Choosing FITS again while a summon remains active triggers Pledge Roar, a high-damage attack that drains Cloud’s HP. Its use therefore trades immediate power for a direct cost to the character.

The demo concludes with Sephiroth’s appearance and a fight against Jenova Death, a creature returning from the original Final Fantasy VII with a spiky redesign. The boss deploys wide-area fire attacks, including fireballs and scorching gusts, requiring players to dodge or guard to prevent severe damage to the party.

Tentacles emerge during the fight to shield the main body, preventing it from taking damage until each one is destroyed. Later, those tentacles also spew fire like flamethrowers. The hands-on session brought the battle to a close by combining Synergy Abilities and Limit Breaks.

The showing establishes distinct roles for Vincent’s dual fighting styles, Cid’s aerial mobility, and the build options introduced by FITS ahead of the game’s PS5 release.
