State of Play and State of Play Japan: every announcement, trailer, and release date

What we know

PlayStation’s double State of Play and State of Play Japan broadcast delivered news on more than 30 games. The presentations included game reveals, release dates, expansions, updates, demos available today, PlayStation Plus additions, and two Grand Theft Auto VI-inspired limited-edition DualSense controllers.

Among the headline announcements, Final Fantasy VII Revelation will conclude the three-part remake project on April 8, 2027 for PS5. Its new showing highlighted an expanded world, including exploration from the Highwind, grappling guns and chocobos for traversing towns and landscapes, plus the FITS combat system and its powerful synergies.

Marvel’s Wolverine launches globally on PS5 on September 15, 2026. Its launch trailer offers a closer look at Logan’s interactions with allies including Jean Grey and Team X, as well as new friends and foes. PlayStation also confirmed Dragon Ball Xenoverse 3 for PS5 in 2027, with custom hero creation, personalized fighting styles, and battles against powerful opponents.

New games and confirmed dates

The broadcast unveiled CONQ: Crown of No Quarter, a shared open-world warfare experience where players command armies on land and at sea, attack enemy strongholds, construct siege engines, and fight large-scale battles for their faction.

A number of releases were also dated for the years ahead:

Daba: Land of Water Scar, from Dark Star Games and part of the China Hero Project, comes to PS5 in spring 2027. Players control a clayman traveling through a fantastical land whose waters have run dry. Fate/Extra Record, a full remake of the original game, launches on January 28, 2027 for PS5 and PS4. It expands the Moon Holy Grail War and reworks its Command Card deck-building battles with an added strategic dimension. Gundam Rogue Orbit launches on March 5, 2027. It features rapid Gundam combat, deep customization, newly revealed weapon types and Tactical Skills, parts that change how a unit moves and fights, and visual options including an RX-78-2 Gundam MOD Skin. First-person historical folk horror game Hunter’s Moon, inspired by the real history of English witch hunts, arrives on PS5 on October 25. An accused woman must avoid detection while seeking safety from witch hunters in a 17th-century English village. Maneater 2 comes to PS5 next year. The sequel places its man-eating bull shark inside an ultra-luxury private island theme park, where it must eat, explore, and evolve in pursuit of freedom. Metro 2039 launches on PS5 on February 4, 2027. Its first PS5 Pro gameplay reveal introduced a single-player survival adventure starring the mysterious Stranger in post-apocalyptic Moscow. Rhapsody in Scarlet is a new Konami action-adventure that blends 1920s New York, jazz, and magical beasts. It follows magus Ellie Myers as she becomes caught up in a mystery involving a shadowy mafia organization. The Eminence in Shadow: Phantom Echoes, the series’ first console game, comes to PS5 in 2027. It is a roguelite action game focused on the Seven Shadows, with an original story supervised by series author Daisuke Aizawa. Uncanyon, from the team behind Maquette, launches on PS5 next year. The puzzle-led adventure lets players control convergences between realities and explore the newly blended worlds they create. Until Dawn 2, developed by Firesprite with AdHoc Studio, arrives on January 28, 2027. The Dead True crew returns to Blackwood Sanitorium before heading to Akishima Island, in a story driven by difficult choices and their consequences. Experimental label CygamesEdge will make its debut with Where the Seeds Fall, coming to PS5 on November 5, 2026. The action-adventure follows a soldier and a Fell Child descending the World Tree toward a Blight-stricken surface. World Phasebound Control Authority: WPCA is due on PS5 in 2028. The Seoul-set action RPG casts players as a Containment Agent entering restricted zones to confront strange supernatural phenomena.

Elsewhere, Rev. Noir confirmed a 2027 release. The RPG follows Asch and Finé on their journey to stop the deadly catastrophe known as the lightfall. Double Fine Productions’ wordless atmospheric puzzle adventure Keeper is available now on PS5, telling the story of an awakening lighthouse that sets off across an island with a spirited seabird.

Expansions, updates, and new content

Pearl Abyss will release Crimson Desert: Charting the Unknown on PlayStation Store on October 15. The expansion follows Kliff, Oongka, and Damiane as they seek their purpose and shape their futures.

Digimon Story Time Stranger: A Hero’s Eternal Legacy comes to PS5 in 2027. Set three years after the main game, the DLC adds a new protagonist and partner along with around 50 new Digimon. Dragon Quest Monsters: The Withered World launches on PS5 on December 3, while Genesis Maiden, the first DLC for Sword Art Online: Echoes of Aincrad, arrives this winter with a story set on Aincrad’s early floors, Mito joining the battle, and new gameplay additions.

Final Fantasy Resonance arrives on October 22, and its entire first chapter is now available as a demo on PlayStation Store. Save data will carry into the full game. The trailer also confirmed that players can find and challenge One-Winged Angel Sephiroth for a special reward.

Ghost of Yōtei receives two pieces of content on October 1 as part of its Complete Edition. Combat survival mode Most Wanted brings enemy waves and new boss encounters, with unlockable weapons, cosmetics, and playable characters as rewards. Echoes of Sekigahara explores Atsu’s past and her experiences during the Battle of Sekigahara.

Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance is coming to PS5 in 2027 with new monsters and challenges, evolved hunting actions and mechanics, a new locale, and the next chapter in the Expedition Team’s story. State of Play Japan shared further details on the Skybound Eyrie area, the Boost Action, and several Elder Dragons, including the newly revealed Gundoraja. The expansion will be playable at Tokyo Game Show 2026 in a demo featuring a hunt against Arakeeta.

The free Saros Zenith update launches later this year. It adds Overlord Rush, a consecutive boss mode with worldwide competition; Eclipse Layers, a New Game Plus mode with new modifiers, progression options, and secrets; and accessibility features including a slow game speed setting.

For demos, SlashZero has a limited-time PS5 demo available now, featuring three playable characters, boss fights, and more than 10 hours of content. The side-scrolling action roguelike launches in spring 2027. Stupid Never Dies also has a demo available today, letting players experience its opening hours and carry their save into the full game when it launches on October 21.

Meanwhile, Rematch launches its Blue Lock collaboration on PS5 on September 24, bringing the series’ Egoists to Sloclap’s online multiplayer football game.

Gran Turismo 7, PlayStation Plus, and hardware

Gran Turismo 7 will receive Spec IV in two updates planned for October and December. Together, they add two circuits, 12 cars, further modes, and more content. New features include Online Drift Trials, focused on control, precision, and style; Shuffle Races, which change the conditions of each event; and Family Mode, designed to welcome players with different driving experience levels.

PlayStation announced four PlayStation Plus additions. Mycopunk, a highly customizable one-to-four-player co-op looter shooter, joins the Game Catalog later this year. Mega Man X: Command Mission arrives in Premium Classics in September, while Dino Crisis 2 and the original Ratchet & Clank will follow this year. Monthly game availability may vary by region.

Finally, PlayStation will release the DualSense Wireless Controller – Grand Theft Auto VI Black Limited Edition and DualSense Wireless Controller – Grand Theft Auto VI White Limited Edition on November 19. Pre-orders open on September 10. Grand Theft Auto VI launches on PS5 on November 19.

The event also featured a trailer for Zach Cregger’s new Resident Evil film. It reaches cinemas on September 18 and follows medical courier Bryan, who becomes caught in Raccoon City as a viral outbreak takes hold. LEGO and PlayStation also announced a 1,911-piece set recreating the original PlayStation console and controller at near 1:1 scale, due on October 1.
