GTA V and Red Dead Redemption 2 leave PS Plus Extra on November 17, before GTA VI

Rockstar Games’ two big recent hits are leaving the PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium catalog on November 17, just two days before GTA VI launches. The Talos Principle 2, Football Manager 26 and several other games are going too, for more than ten departures in total depending on the region.

Rockstar bows out of PS Plus right before GTA VI

Sony had already flagged GTA V’s departure with a notice on PS5. As reported by GamingBible, the message read: “Grand Theft Auto V is available to play in the Game Catalog for PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium members, but only until November 17.” It invited players to revisit Los Santos before Jason and Lucia’s Vice City story begins and offered the choice to pre-order GTA VI or play GTA V.

Now, according to Push Square, ComicBook and Vandal, the Last Chance to Play collection in the console’s PlayStation Plus tab, updated as October’s games arrived, confirms that Red Dead Redemption 2 is leaving on the same day. Sony hasn’t published the list on its website. GTA VI launches on November 19 on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, so both will be gone in the new game’s launch week.

It’s not the first time. Push Square points out that Rockstar often rotates its games in and out of subscription services and that both have already had three stints on PS Plus Extra, so seeing them return later wouldn’t be a surprise.

Games leaving on November 17

These seven games appear on the lists published by Push Square, ComicBook and Vandal with no regional caveat: Grand Theft Auto V (PS5 and PS4); Red Dead Redemption 2 (PS4); Football Manager 26 (PS5); The Talos Principle 2 (PS5); Cricket 24; Rock of Ages 3: Make & Break; and Hotshot Racing.

Others depend on your region

The list varies by country. Vandal notes that Monster Boy and the Cursed Kingdom, Earth Defense Force 4.1: The Shadow of New Despair, Rapala Fishing: Pro Series, Yet Another Zombie Defense HD and Thank Goodness You’re Here! are only leaving “in some regions”; the lists from Push Square (UK) and ComicBook (US) include the first four but not the last. The safest bet is to check the Last Chance to Play collection on your own console.

What it means for subscribers

Unlike PS Plus Essential’s monthly games, which you keep for as long as you subscribe once they’re in your library, Extra and Premium catalog games stop being accessible when they leave the service. Anyone halfway through one of these games has until November 17 to finish it; after that, they’ll need to buy it to keep playing.

Meanwhile, October’s Extra and Premium additions have been rolling out since Tuesday, October 20, led by Mafia: The Old Country, Horizon Forbidden West and Mycopunk. Sony will reveal November’s arrivals later.
