Modern Warfare 4’s campaign is now playable in early access: 16 missions
The full campaign of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 has been available in early access since October 16. Activision and Xbox Wire confirmed it the same day: anyone who has digitally pre-ordered or pre-purchased the Standard Digital Edition or the Vault Edition can play it on any platform until the general launch on October 23.

Who can play it and where
According to the official Call of Duty blog, the perk covers the Standard Digital Edition and the Vault Edition on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox on PC, PlayStation 5, Battle.net, Steam and Nintendo Switch 2. Activision Support’s editions page puts it simply: any digital edition pre-ordered or pre-purchased unlocks the whole campaign from Friday, October 16, Pacific Time. The purchase has to be digital.
Early access runs until the October 23 launch. Activision warns that actual start times may vary with time zones and possible outages.
Sixteen missions across Korea, Paris, New York and Mumbai
The campaign has 16 missions. Players take the role of Private Park Hyun Jun, fighting alongside his squad against a full-scale invasion of the Korean Peninsula. Meanwhile, John Price, the operator turned outlaw, hunts down whoever is pulling the strings.
The Vault Edition page fills in the settings: trench warfare in Korea, close-quarters combat in New York, chases through Paris and SAS night raids in Mumbai. Activision has also published a story-so-far recap, from the invasion of Urzikstan and the beginnings of Task Force 141 to the clash between Captain Price and General Shepherd.
Rewards that carry over to multiplayer and DMZ
Completing missions unlocks 16 rewards in a fixed order, all usable in multiplayer and DMZ once the full game launches. They include eight base Operators (Cho, Dallas, Luca, Oh-Ji, Kal, Dunn, West and Park), the “No More Rules” calling card, the “Ready Line” loading screen and the “Gone Dark” emblem, plus three Double XP tokens and two Double Weapon XP tokens.
That makes early campaign access a way to reach launch with some cosmetics already unlocked and XP tokens saved for the first few days.
What’s next: DMZ on the 20th and launch on the 23rd
Next up is early access to DMZ, the extraction mode, which starts on Tuesday, October 20 (Pacific Time) with the same digital pre-order requirement. The general launch, which adds multiplayer, follows on Friday, October 23 on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC and Nintendo Switch 2.
As we reported, Modern Warfare 4 launches as a standalone release and is not part of Game Pass at launch, so early access requires buying or pre-ordering the game on Xbox too.
