Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4’s Final Open Beta Patch Tunes Weapons and Resurgence
The August 31 update retunes multiple weapons, improves visibility and audio on Zodiac, and keeps Double XP events active for the Open Beta’s last full day.

What we know
Infinity Ward has released the August 31 update for the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 Open Beta, which the studio identifies as the test’s last full day. The patch delivers another multiplayer weapon balance pass, visibility and audio changes for Resurgence on Zodiac, and further fixes.
Double XP and Double Weapon XP remain active. Players can use the Transit 213 24/7 playlist to work toward Level 30 and unlock the Beta Forged Blueprint. The rotation also keeps 6v6 Gunfight on Kill Block available for the rest of the beta.
Multiplayer weapon tuning
The August 31 pass changes weapons across nearly every category. On the buff side, the Krait P68 gains one damage point in its second damage range and slightly extends that range; the PPSh-41 gets small boosts to its early ranges; and the ISO Nightshade rises from 20 to 21 maximum damage, receives range improvements, and has its headshot multiplier increased from 1.25 to 1.3.
Light machine guns receive targeted reductions. The FiNN LMG drops from 33 to 30 maximum damage and has its first mid-damage range shortened, while the Type 73 loses maximum damage, mid-range damage, and range. The Type 73 does gain improved neck and upper-torso multipliers, however, rising from 1 to 1.1.
There are changes for the Oris 8.6 marksman rifle as well, with its maximum-damage range reduced from 20.8 to 19 meters. Among assault rifles, the Han 86 receives one extra point of both maximum and minimum damage. Axion changes apply only to default loadouts, adding a new mid-damage range and altering its ranges. The M4 Hurricane Apex attachment, meanwhile, has its maximum damage reduced from 30 to 27 and its headshot multiplier lowered from 1.3 to 1.25.
The Rezi 12 also sees the range benefits of two long barrels reduced: the Haebang 635R-7 goes from +25% to +19%, while the ZLR Rogue 90 25-inch barrel falls from +15% to +13%.
Visibility improvements for Zodiac Resurgence
On the Warzone side, Zodiac has received visual changes intended to improve visibility. Infinity Ward adjusted the overall color balance, slightly improved visibility when looking into and out of interiors, and lowered bloom strength during transitions between indoor and outdoor areas.
Character outlines are now brighter and easier to notice at close range and across a wider vertical area. The studio says these are incremental changes and will continue assessing whether additional adjustments are needed.
The update also cuts the button-hold time needed to begin applying Armor Plates by 30%, bringing it in line with the live game. For audio, enemy Ascenders are louder and their sounds have improved prioritization to keep them from becoming too quiet or inaudible. Enemy parachute landing audio is also prioritized more effectively, while the audible distance for Supply Boxes has been reduced by roughly half.
To reduce interface clutter, squadmate names now appear only when players aim directly at them, with further changes to their size and scaling. A bug that could display a duplicate squadmate indicator above players has also been fixed.
Content and changes added over the beta
The notes also collect updates released throughout the beta. August 30 added Transit 213 24/7 and 6v6 Gunfight on Kill Block, alongside Double XP and Double Weapon XP. On Transit 213, Team Deathmatch’s score limit rose from 100 to 150, while Kill Confirmed’s increased from 75 to 100.
August 29 brought Ground War: Combat Outpost, Wolves Stadium and Imjin Farmlands maps for that mode, and additional playlists including 10v10 Gunfight on Kill Block. The beta later introduced movement changes for Resurgence: sprint speed increased by 3% to 5% based on weapon class, dedicated melee sprint speed rose by 3.5%, and ADS strafe movement speed increased by 6% to 10% depending on weapon class.
In Resurgence, players can now revive downed squadmates while prone, the Infil Gas Explosion was disabled, and the Sang 9mm became the Infil and Backup Pistol. Experience gains were increased as well: Resurgence Quads receives 55% more player XP and 13% more weapon XP, while Casual Resurgence Quads gets 46% more player XP and 240% more weapon XP.
Earlier updates improved ground-loot interactions, adjusted armor damage indicators, reduced several visual shake effects, and disabled HUD shake during the Open Beta. Warning radii were also reduced for Bombing Run, Impact Warhead, and Artillery Beacon.
Performance, fixes, and known issues
The update includes general PC performance improvements, though some in-game settings may reset to their defaults on the first boot after the patch. It also fixes issues across menus, progression, visuals, audio, maps, modes, and Killstreaks, including problems that could prevent Care Packages from appearing or cause Crossfire audio to keep playing.
Among the known issues, Infinity Ward says that characters in the Switch 2 Operator Select menu can begin rendering before an acceptable level of detail has streamed into memory. The list also includes player names occasionally appearing blank on the in-match scoreboard, Operators missing from the lobby, and loadout edits that may fail to save when made immediately before a match loads.
The beta remains open for player feedback until it closes, while the studio directs players to its official Modern Warfare 4 and Warzone Trello boards for active issue tracking.
