What we know

Infinity Ward has released the August 31 update for the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 Open Beta, which the studio describes as the test’s last full day. The patch brings another multiplayer weapon balance pass, Resurgence changes for Zodiac, fixes, and the playlists available as the beta winds down.

Double XP and Double Weapon XP remain enabled. Players can still work toward Level 30 to unlock the Beta Forged Blueprint, while Transit 213 24/7 and 6v6 Gunfight on Kill Block will stay available for the rest of the beta.

Multiplayer weapon tuning

Infinity Ward says average time-to-kill is now closer to its intended target after the first weekend, but it has made targeted changes intended to better define each weapon class’s role.

Among the buffs, the Krait P68 gains one point of damage in its second mid-damage range and a slightly longer reach for that range. The PPSh-41 gets modest increases to its early damage ranges, while the ISO Nightshade receives one additional point of maximum damage, wider initial ranges, and a headshot multiplier increase from 1.25 to 1.3.

Several weapons have also been pulled back. The FiNN LMG’s maximum damage drops from 33 to 30, and its first mid-damage range is shorter. The Type 73 loses maximum and mid-range damage along with range in those brackets, though its neck and upper-torso multipliers rise from 1 to 1.1. The Oris 8.6’s maximum-damage range falls from 20.8 meters to 19 meters.

The Han 86’s maximum damage rises from 22 to 23, with minimum damage increasing from 18 to 19. For the default-loadout Axion, the update adds a mid-damage bracket from 22.9 to 40.6 meters and changes its neck and upper-torso multipliers. The M4 Hurricane, an Apex attachment for the M4, has its maximum damage reduced from 30 to 27 and its headshot multiplier lowered from 1.3 to 1.25.

The damage-range benefits of the Rezi 12’s Haebang 635R-7 and ZLR Rogue 90 long barrels have also been reduced.

Zodiac visibility and audio changes

Warzone’s portion of the patch focuses on the Resurgence experience on Zodiac. The map has received a global color-balance adjustment, reduced bloom strength when moving between interiors and exteriors, and a slight visibility improvement when looking into or out of buildings. Character outlines are now brighter and easier to notice at close range and across a broader vertical area.

The hold time before beginning Armor Plating has been cut by 30%, matching the behavior of the live game. Enemy Ascenders are louder, and their audio is better prioritized so it is less likely to be obscured during a match. Enemy parachute landing sounds receive similar prioritization, while Supply Box audio can be heard from roughly half the previous distance.

Squadmate names will now appear only when directly aiming at them, with further changes to nameplate size and scaling. The stated goal is to make teammates easier to identify while reducing visual clutter. The update also fixes an issue that could display a duplicate squadmate indicator over players.

Earlier beta additions and changes

The notes also cover changes made throughout the beta. August 30 added Transit 213 24/7 and 6v6 Gunfight on Kill Block. On Transit 213, Team Deathmatch’s score limit increased from 100 to 150, while Kill Confirmed’s increased from 75 to 100.

August 29 brought Ground War: Combat Outpost, alongside the Wolves Stadium and Imjin Farmlands maps for that mode. In Resurgence, players can revive downed squadmates while prone, the Infil Gas Explosion was disabled, and the Sang 9mm became the Infil and Backup Pistol.

That update also increased sprint speed by 3% to 5% depending on weapon class, dedicated melee sprint speed by 3.5%, and ADS strafe speed by 6% to 10%. Player and weapon XP gains were raised in both Resurgence Quads and Casual Resurgence Quads.

The studio also made broad weapon-handling improvements during the beta, including shorter aim-down-sights and sprint-to-fire times for multiple weapons. Infinity Ward adjusted weapons and attachments in Resurgence default loadouts while custom loadouts remain unavailable; the notes state that custom loadouts will be fully available at launch.

Performance work, fixes, and known issues

Earlier changes include general PC performance improvements, with a note that some in-game settings may reset to default when the game is first launched. Fixes cover menus, progression, visuals, audio, maps, modes, and Killstreaks.

Other Warzone beta changes improved ground-loot interactions to help prevent accidental weapon pickups, clarified the armor-hit damage indicator, and reduced visual movement by temporarily disabling HUD shake for the Open Beta and adjusting screen and gun shake values.

Known issues include character models potentially beginning to render before an acceptable level of detail has loaded in the Switch 2 Operator Select menu, player names occasionally appearing blank on the in-match scoreboard, and loadout edits made immediately before a match sometimes failing to save.

Infinity Ward says it will continue assessing player feedback and refining Resurgence ahead of the launch of Warzone for Modern Warfare 4.
