New on Xbox Oct 19–23: Modern Warfare 4, Final Fantasy Resonance and more

Modern Warfare 4 closes out the week

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 launches on October 23 with Xbox Play Anywhere, so one purchase covers Xbox Series X|S and PC. Players who pre-ordered can start the campaign early: Campaign Early Access begins today, Friday, October 16. Xbox's official game page flags two important details: the game is not on Game Pass at launch, and it isn't coming to Xbox One.

Final Fantasy Resonance, the first HD-2D Final Fantasy

A day earlier, on October 22, Final Fantasy Resonance arrives as the first Final Fantasy in Square Enix's HD-2D style (pixel art set in 3D environments). On Xbox it also supports Xbox Play Anywhere. According to Square Enix, it launches the same day on Switch 2, Switch, PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC via the Microsoft Store, with the Steam version following on the 23rd. The company's announced US suggested retail price is $49.99.

The rest of the schedule, day by day

Xbox Wire notes that release dates are subject to change. This is the list it published.

Monday 19: Shoresy: Legends of the North, a hockey RPG set in the Shoresy universe.

Tuesday 20: We Were Here Tomorrow (co-op puzzles), Hail to the Rainbow (first-person story adventure with horror and shooter elements), Elite Sports Gaming Football (with PlayStation–Xbox cross-play), Candlemates, and three hidden-object Collector’s Editions: Christmas Across America, Cruise Adventure: Hidden Journey and Family Journey: Hidden Across The World.

Wednesday 21: CyberBot: Zero, a 2D platformer for Xbox Series.

Friday 23: besides Modern Warfare 4, House 2 (sequel to the 2020 horror game House), Fire and Ashes (psychological horror in a psychiatric hospital), Darkenstein 3D Director’s Cut, Omni Growth, Carry The Glass and Seahorse Soap Patrol (both two-player co-op), Railroad Swap and Vixen 357.

What to keep an eye on

For most players the week comes down to two big paid releases: neither is marked as a Game Pass title in Xbox Wire's list, and for Modern Warfare 4 Xbox confirms it won't be in the service at launch. If you've pre-ordered it, you can start the campaign today. Local prices and exact unlock times can vary by region, so check the Xbox store before buying.
